Getting started
How do I get started?
Call or text us at 786-805-6454, or send us a message through our contact form. We’ll talk about what you’re noticing and help you take the next step.
Does my child need a diagnosis?
No. We work with children with and without a formal diagnosis. Eligibility for insurance-covered services depends on your child’s needs and your insurance plan’s requirements.
Do I need a doctor’s referral?
Private-pay families do not need a referral. For insurance-covered services, a doctor’s referral or prescription may be required. We’ll help you understand what your plan needs and what to request from your child’s doctor.
How soon can therapy begin?
An evaluation is the first step. We typically review insurance benefits within two business days. Once the evaluation is complete, therapy can be scheduled based on your child’s needs, appointment availability, and any required insurance authorization. Private-pay families do not need to wait for insurance approval.
Who leads therapy at your practice?
Interactive Therapy Solutions is led by a licensed pediatric occupational therapist who is also a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). We provide occupational therapy, and speech therapy is also available at our clinic.
What ages do you serve?
Children and young adults ages 0–21.
How do I know if my child might benefit from occupational therapy?
If everyday activities such as dressing, eating, play, or school tasks are harder for your child than for other children the same age, an evaluation can help identify factors affecting your child’s participation. The CDC’s milestone checklists are a helpful reference, and the CDC recommends talking with your child’s doctor if your child is not meeting milestones or you have concerns1. You can also try our 1-minute check-in.
Why might my child benefit from both occupational therapy and speech therapy?
Many everyday skills draw on more than one area of development. Speech therapy focuses on communication, language, and swallowing. Occupational therapy focuses on the skills children need for daily activities, such as hand skills, self-care, sensory processing, and self-regulation. Some children have needs in both areas. For example, a child may have trouble expressing what they want and also find dressing or handwriting hard.
Feeding is another area where both can help: speech therapy can address oral-motor and swallowing skills, while occupational therapy can address sensory responses to textures, posture, and self-feeding. When both therapists share goals and strategies, progress in one area can support the other. An evaluation helps show which services fit your child’s needs.
What should I have ready?
A doctor’s referral or prescription, if your insurance plan requires one; copies of any previous therapy reports (OT, speech, ABA); a copy of your child’s insurance card (front and back); and our intake and consent form, which we’ll send to you.
What happens during the evaluation?
We complete a comprehensive evaluation of your child’s skills, strengths, and needs, and we learn about your family’s routines and priorities. Occupational therapists call this the occupational profile2. We then develop an individualized plan with clear goals.
Insurance & private pay
What insurance do you accept?
We accept Humana Tricare, Molina Healthcare CMS, and Aetna Commercial. For Blue Cross Blue Shield (out of network), we’ll call to verify whether your child’s plan includes out-of-network benefits. We also accept Step Up and Act4Me, and private pay is available. See all details on our Insurance & Payment page.
Will my plan cover therapy?
Coverage depends on your child’s plan. We’ll verify your insurance benefits for you and explain your coverage in plain language before your first visit. Benefit verification is not a guarantee of payment, but we will share everything we learn. Some plans also require prior authorization. Requirements vary by plan, and sometimes your child’s doctor submits the request. Because every plan is different, we’ll explain what your plan needs over the phone. Call 786-805-6454 to talk through your child’s plan.
Do all plans cover both occupational therapy and speech therapy?
Not always. Some plans cover one service but not the other. We’ll confirm what your child’s plan covers.
Do you accept Step Up or Act4Me?
Yes. Read our family guide to see how each program works and how to apply. Have questions after reading? Give us a call at 786-805-6454.
What if I don’t have insurance, or my plan isn’t listed?
Private pay is available. We offer affordable treatment packages, individual services, and payment plans, and no referral is needed. Call us and we’ll review the options with you.
Can I get a cost estimate if I pay privately?
Yes. If you are uninsured or paying out of pocket, we provide a Good Faith Estimate of expected costs before services begin, as required by federal law3.
Sessions
How often and how long are sessions?
Frequency and session length are determined after your child’s comprehensive evaluation, based on your child’s goals.
Are sessions one-on-one?
Yes. Every session is one-on-one with your child’s therapist.
Can I be involved in my child’s therapy?
Yes. Parents are part of the team. We review goals and progress with you and share strategies to use at home.
How is progress measured?
We review your child’s progress toward their goals with you regularly and discuss next steps.
Do you offer teletherapy or school-based services?
Yes. In addition to sessions at our North Miami Beach clinic, we offer teletherapy (secure video sessions) when appropriate for your child’s goals, and services at select partner schools. Ask us which option fits your child.
